Hey otwo, careful with those practical ideas.
Bethel lurkers might actually be reading this and save the Org some $$ next year.

we picked ours up recently and guess what moronic feature is still included?.
hint: it is demeaning to jws because it implies that they are completely brain dead.. .
any guesses?.

Doubting Bro:
"Does anyone actually use printed calendar's anymore?"
We still find a printed calendar useful for shared family plans.
It doesn't get viruses and the hard drive doesn't crash.
The JW Calendar, of course, DOES have viruses on every page, so it's just hanging up inside a cabinet for the occasional nosy JW relative to see, but we never actually use it.

LOL @ Finally Free.
Hey, maybe they could show JW parent's being extra creative on Family Worship Night (FWN) by making an igloo or fort out of all the old mags they've got stacked up in the closet.

(Just saw Nobleheart's post.)
Yep. Family Worship Night (tm) is the indoctrination message for the WHOLE YEAR.
I guess the R&F must be slacking pretty bad for them to devote the whole calendar to that one message.

doubting bro nailed it:
"magazine day every sat??"
Dear Watchtower, when are you going to drop this ridiculous "feature" from the calendar?
If "Magazine Day" (tm) was, for instance, the 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month, it might make sense to include that on the calendar. But when you just see a running repeat EVERY Saturday, how dumb is that?
The JW Calendar does serve three useful purposes for the Organization IMO:
1. Gives the weekly Bible reading.
2. Gives the date for the Memorial.
3. Gives the F&DS one more shot at indoctrinating the members with whatever message they choose to include for that month.
But beyond that, EVERY JW I KNOW has to also have a "Worldly" calendar so they know the dates of the Holidays. Yes, dubbies need to know the Holiday dates too.

Hint: It is demeaning to JWs because it implies that they are COMPLETELY brain dead.
Any guesses?

what are the top 5 books you would either recommend and/or have had the greatest influence on you?
(if you only want to mention one or two that's fine as well.).
if you feel like it, please briefly tell us why.
Mouthy: "DOUG??? WHO IS DOUG."
Farkel has revealed more than once on this site that his name is Doug.
I would never "out" even someone's first name without their permission.
Hadit: I've read a few on your list already, but "Hold On To Your Kids" is one I haven't heard of nor read. I'll check it out even though our kids are getting to the age where we're having to "let go" not "hold on". But I'm sure there's some good insights in there.
On the Rocks: Thanks for the recommendations.
Violia: Thanks for including what they meant to you.
Here's a little addition of my own: John Grisham. He's become a brainless guilty pleasure of mine.
I heard someone describe his writing as "He writes the same book every year."
With just a few exceptions, this is true. I'm currently zipping through "The Associate" instead of watching TV. It's definitely a typical, formulaic Grisham novel.
Keep 'em coming!

Mouthy, can you please send Doug to his room?
(Good to see you around again Farkel.)

ok so this is my second winter out of the crazy religion.. where i live we can get really bad winters and this seems to be another bad year.
we just had a record november for snow fall.
we live in the city and the city snow plowing is not the best to say the least.
Where I grew up there was quite a bit of rural territory and yes, we thrashed our cars.
I wrote a little memoir about it a while back if you want to have a read.
Here's the link:
Any chance your hubby will ever wake up to the true nature of JWism?

history shows people were hung on stakes and crosses, why do the jw's make a big deal about the cross?
isn't jesus dying for the sins of man the issue?
the cross was a part of the jw's early on.
JWs: "The cross is a pagan, phallic symbol."
Great. Wasn't Jesus' death supposed to be uber-humiliating and the ultimate sacrifice? Nothing quite as humiliating as being nailed to a Roman phallus. So what?
